Tasty Readings…

It has been a busy few weeks. I’m sure you’ve noticed a late blog or two lately…well I’ve returned to work after maternity leave and had our family onslaught of birthday parties. Why is everyone born around the same time of year?! Anyway, better late than never I say…

So I got in early and wrote this one before having to attend two kids parties on the one day. I have spent a lot of my spare, not-that-I-have-much, time watching You Tube and Googling cake recipes and tutorials. I’ve also come across a few books that I REALLY want, so I thought why not blog about some reading material; The What I Have and What I Want. If you own or have read any on the want list feel free to let me know what you thought of them.
Doing this I realised that I actually own very few cake specific books and most of those are cupcake books. I do remember my cupcake phase, funnily enough it was before kids.
My Books

A small selection of the books I use regularly

Mum bought me the vintage addition of the Australian Women’s Weekly Children’s Birthday Cakes Book not so long ago. Most people would flick through it and put it back on the shelf as its so outdated. I though, find it quite handy. You don’t have to decorate the cakes or even bake them in the way they suggest, but they are good for shapes, construction and ideas. The idea for the car I did on the top of my brothers 30th birthdy cake came from this book…
AWW Children's Birthday Cake Book Vintage Edition

A great place to start for 3D sculpted cakes, and you don’t have to follow how they are decorated in the book. Add your own style at your skill level.

This is the I Want list…it’s actually short, I think so anyway, but very specific:

…and that’s only baking/decorating books. There are a few magazine subscriptions too, but with starting my new shop – that’s right, my new cake decorating supplies shop I just won’t have time to read them all so I’ll settle for a birthday present to myself of just three books so I don’t get too distracted just yet. Happy baking and keep your eyes peeled for all the awesome supplies coming soon to the site 🙂
